Early Signs of Spring!

It is such a beautiful day, today! Only 40 with some winds, but the sun warms everything fast! I just snapped a few photos of a couple things that are beginning to bud. I forgot the forsythia, which only has a few small blossoms. I've already seen daffodils in full bloom elsewhere this week! It is so nice to see things blooming! I just pray the fruit trees don't decide to bloom, since it's way before last frost date! I am glad too, that the hens are laying again! The other day, I got five eggs! It's random; I never know how many to expect.

On a different note, I had decided to 'embrace the gray', as the young girl at Sally's said. I finally made up my mind; no more chemicals! It seems foolish to eat healthy, exercise, make my own soap, lotion, toothpaste, etc., to avoid chemicals, yet still put them on my head! The hubs was not thrilled with my idea, and was very happy when I announced that I would be using henna, instead. My town doesn't sale henna, ANYWHERE! I thought, so I ordered some from Vitacost. The local international market tried to get some, but could only find it in red. I wanted dark brown. I sent in the Vitacost order last night, the lady from the international market called me awhile ago and said it came in. Wow! All the way from Atlanta in a day! I am getting it this afternoon and trying it tomorrow. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out. I am so excited to cover the gray, instead of embracing it! How do you feel about chemicals? Are you willing to avoid them at all costs? I believe chemicals and pesticides make people very sick, even die! So I am trying to do what I can to avoid them in, or on our bodies. I love this journey, and am so thankful, God is leading me to do the things I do! Well, off with my wheelbarrow, since the lawnmower battery needs a charge! Have a great weekend! Blessings from Bama!

The fennel has over-wintered so far.

So has the dill.

  1. I can't wait until we see green bulbs coming up. I have more gray/white than I can pluck out...henna is a good idea. Blessings from Wisconsin.

    1. Yours are probably covered in snow! I think the henna is going to work. My friend uses it and her hair is beautiful and shiny!

  2. Lucky you to have signs of spring!!! I don't color my hair. May have tried when younger once or twice to put a rinse on. I don't want any more chemicals going into my head than I have to! I am lucky tho because at 73 I still have a lot of darker hair. Figure I have earned the gray I have! lol It will be interesting to hear how well henna does for you. Isn't there an herb you can use too? Maybe sage? Rosemary? Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy! You are blessed not to have much gray! The herbs are good to mask the strong smell of the henna, which is an herb, too. I'm waiting on my order to come in and I will let ya'll know how it turns out.

  3. Hi Bama Girl!
Kudos on the hair color choice! I didn't know you made your own toothpaste, soap and lotion! Yea! We, also, use homemade toothsoap, deodorant, and much more...but, still have to find a good lotion recipe. Would you share yours?
Your signs of spring are wonderful...we still have snow...BUT, I can see the grass in places now! Yippee! :)
What?!? No "kid" pics? Where are they???
    Love your blog! Hugs, Cheeryshirley

    1. Hi Cheeryshirley! I know, I missed them until late yesterday when Win and Riley came over for a quick visit. I didn't get any photos though! I do not like the lotion I made, and when I find a recipe I really like and use, I will share it. I'm not sure, but it may have come from Wellness Mama or possibly Frugally Sustainable. Those are good sites for soap, lotion, and toothpaste, etc.
Glad you can at least see some grass! Are ya'll happy in all that snow? I think you need to come to Alabama for a visit!
Thanks, Shirley and hugs to you too!

  4. Hey Bama Girl! You're definitely ahead of us over there with iris and forsythia buds. I'm all for embracing the gray.... I have for the past few years now and people actually stop me in public and 'thank me'? for being so 'brave'?.... kinda' cracks me up because my 'embracing the gray' began when, after coloring my hair for years and years and years and years, etc..... one went wrong, then one thing lead to another and I ended up with bright orange hair, I kid you not. I could not get to the store fast enough and purchased a handful of different colored, pretty hats to wear, and that's what I wore for something like six months or so until my hair began to grow out. My hairdresser kept telling me I'd hate the gray, that it'd make me look 'old'..... but I LOVE my gray. After that I've been totally terrified of even thinking about coloring my hair again for fear of another disaster. So, you go girl!!! Good Luck! Hugs to you!! PS After the big snowflake day the other day.... nary one more flake fell. Bummer.

    1. Oh, I was hoping to see snow photos! That is a bummer! I really don't like gray hair on me since my hair is so dark. It's hard to go from dark to white after all these years! If my hair was blonde, I probably wouldn't mind so much! Kudos to you for 'embracing the gray'! Bright orange, oh my! That's one way I would never use chemicals again! Thanks for sharing!
