Happy November First!

It's in the mid-seventies today and it's hot! I've got the a/c on to cool things down a bit! We are being inundated with ladybugs again! Something about this time of year! I think they are dropped down into heavily treed areas to control the pine beetle. They are all over my house! They get in the house, and they can sting! They leave an awful stench if you touch them! Can I say yuck? Seems like they are here for several months before they disappear again. And we've got kudzu bugs on our Myer lemon tree! They won't harm it, but they too, will sting and leave a stench! Do we always have to deal with bugs? I still get chiggers when I walk through the garden! So annoying! I'll be so glad when Randy mowes it down! How is the bug situation where you live?

The girls are here napping, so I thought I'd take advantage of my time! I don't have the baby so I'll probably get through this post. We've been eating good here this week! I made some awesome chicken pot pies that were worthy of repeating! So we had them two nights in a row! I also made some awesome black bean soup that was repeated as well. Tonight will hopefully be homemade pizza night. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow! The time moves back and we loose that hour of daylight! Makes for some really short days for while! Fortunately, in late December the days begin to lengthen.

I helped April prepare an extra bedroom for Winterlynn's pre-school! It has been so much fun! She's enjoying it and so is April! Now, I'm always looking for ideas that would be helpful in teaching her. I get to do all the fun stuff like printing and laminating! Winterlynn stayed so sick while attending her pre-school, so that was the major factor in setting up a homeschool. Now, hopefully, she won't have to take so many antibiotics!

Did ya'll have a good Halloween? We didn't have any trick-or-treaters. We never have! Guess the neighborhood children went somewhere else. The girls are up now so I'll finish! Ya'll have a good weekend! Blessings from Bama!

We went to a Mark Lowry concert last weekend. He's a Christian comedian.

He looks a lot different than he used to, but he still sings very well. Comedy is not what it used to be either.

One of the very few maple trees in our sight.

The leaves are just now getting that fall look I love.

A closer-up of the maple tree.

The look of fall around our house.

In back of the house.

Behind the goat girls.

These pastry sheets made the best chicken pot pie! I will use these again!

The most absolute BEST caramel corn I've ever eaten!

Ladybugs all over the screen!

  1. Hi Felecia, we don't get any trick or treaters either...more candy for us. The maple trees look lovely. I love the colors of Fall.
Beast carmel corn, yumm. You can't beat chicken pot pie. I can't wait to get my new kitchen in working order. Blessings....

  2. We get those lady bugs here once in a while but we haven't had any right here at our house for many years now. I know I was surprised the first time one bit me as ladybugs up North don't bite. I think homeschooling it the best and I am so glad that I did it with Michelle even though we waited until she was in 6th grade.

    1. Be glad you don't have them, Becky! They are annoying! Yes, I think homeschooling is good, most of the time! Blessings!

  3. Those "ladybugs" are actually Asian Beetles. We have them here as well, The DNR introduced those nasty pests into our native environment to kill off too many aphids of some other kind of pest. However, what they didn't know is that they have no known preditor. Leaving them to multiply. We had thousands of them. My husband did all of this research and found a chemical that kills them. It is called Suspend SD ordered on Amazon. You spray your window screens and siding and they die. I know your feeling about chemicals - you have to weight out the pros and cons. Now that we have used it - I wouldn't go without it! I didn't know you were going to be homeschooling - helping to anyway. Good for you. Blessings from Wisconsin.

    1. Hi Jacky! Now I remember! You shared this info with us last year! Thanks for sharing again! I'll tell Ran about the chemical and see what he thinks. Yes, it just sort of happened quickly! Been real busy with it but I love it! Trying to stay a month in advance! Working on Christmas, now! Thanks, Blessings!

  4. Felecia, those trees look beautiful. I'm really not an autumn person at all, but I suppose the distance has made the heart grow fonder ;) I love the prepackaged pastry sheets for making chocolate pastries as well as pot pies. Sometimes you just don't have the time to make everything from scratch, right?

    1. Hi Jelli! It's good you're not an autumn person, since you live in Costa Rica! That is the truth! Thanks for stopping by! Blessings!

  5. I don't think we have as many problems with bugs as you do but I do complain! The picture of your house is beautiful. We have been out east to visit a couple of our kids and grands so we weren't home to give out candy to the trick or trreaters! My sister-in-laws son played in one of the bands for the opening of a Mark Lowry concert in Shipshewana, Indiana just recently. I heard Mark Lowry once years ago. Nancy

  6. Sounds like you've got a lot of good things going on!! We saw an old Mark Lowry concert with the late-Anthony Burger on the piano on our ETV channel recently and it was awesome! But since I play the piano, I was mostly watching the genius of Anthony Burger. Have some of his sheet music too that's beautiful to play. Your cooking looks and sounds! delicious and the fall colors 'round your home are beautiful. We do not have trick-or-treaters either because of our rural country setting, so our little town closes down Main Street to pedestrians only that night, and merchants and churches set up painted HUGE boxes, tables, etc. for the little kids to have a place to trick-or-treat in our little rural town. I homeschooled both my girls - the oldest from K-4 to 10th grade, the youngest for all her education years including high school and enjoyed every minute and treasure all the memories. It's terrific to be there for the 'lightbulb' moments of your children. Have a great day!!

    1. Hi Lisa! Yes, we stay quite busy around here! Anthony burger played outstandingly on that piano! The concert was in Boaz, if you know where that is, so it was a very small crowd. Mark and Anthony were very laid back! Thanks, Lisa! Oh, that sounds like a wonderful thing for the kids! I wished we lived in a more rural town! I'm changing my perspective on homeschooling since I am a former public school teacher! Homeschooling definitely has it's place! Thanks, you too!
