The garden is doing better than last year, so far. One tomato has a bloom! I wished they all did! Something is eating the leaves of the beans. What can I do to help that and keep it organic? I purchased some non-organic sweet potato slips and am going to see how they do. I planted organic heirlooms I ordered a couple of years ago and they didn't make it. I have more knowledge how to grow them now. I just don't know if chickens will eat the sweet potato leaves. Do ya'll know? There's a great spot to plant them in the chicken yard. I'll have to read up on that. How's your garden doing?
The goat girls are doing well. Their bellies are beginning to get bigger. The brown one is bigger than the white one. Maybe she is further along, or has twins. They are due mid-July. The babies will be here before I know it! I hope ya'll are experiencing a warm in your temps! I'll try to send some of our warmth to you! Have a great week! Blessings from Bama!

I think he's the cutest boy in the world, even if he doesn't smile! |
The candy striped amaryllis is fading fast! |
I need to look up this vine. Do you know what it is? |
Hillbilly chicken shade! They love to gather under here! |
I hilled the potatoes but it doesn't look like I did enough! |
How high should the hill go? I think it might start to fall down if I go further. |
These are right next to the bees. Funny how purple shows up blue in a photo. |
My one and only bloom so far is from an heirloom: Nepoli. |
I wanted bread for breakfast but it was too late to run the bread machine. I thought of the bread that is the easiest, from Jim Lahey's book, My Bread. It is delicious! |
Hot and fresh, right out of the oven! |
Congrats for your daughter for successfully completing the school age. Time is moving fast and all things are growing. Your garden looks great and happy to hear the updates of it.
ReplyDeleteYour bread seems to be yummy!
Um....he's a boy, not a girl! Thanks! There will be more. Blessings!
DeleteHi Bama Girl! Congratulations to Skylar! Very nice picture of him! Yes, the time DOES fly by!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers! Never heard of bees being "honey-bound"! Interesting!
Always, when I see your "kitchen-happenings", I want to trot off into mine and do likewise! So homey the things you whip up!
Happy Spring! Hugs, Cheeryshirley
P.S. No, we are not off grid but sure do wish we were! I guess I just wanted the mobile washer to have and try my hand at. I used to wash laundry by hand in my younger years and just wanted to reminisce! I really would like to use it if I am able! We'll see!
Thank you Cheeryshirley! I'm glad he looks like a boy to you! Yes, I'm always learning about the bees! Oh, that makes me happy to know I've inspired someone to cook from 'scratch'! I would like to have a wringer washer as well, for 'just in case'! Hugs to you too!
DeleteCongratulations to Skylar! What are his plans for the future? I believe the vine you ask about is some kind of a grape. At least the leaves look like that to me. I always hill my potatoes really high around the stems just under the leaves. I saw something cool on pinterest to grow potatoes above ground in a "cage" of wire, even tires. As potato grow add more dirt. looked neat. I can't wait to see the baby goats. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jacky! He is doing an apprenticeship with his Dad and boss to learn heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration. He's also interested in mechanics, as he can do just about anything to a vehicle. So mechanical, just like his Dad! It does look like a grape vine, but never produces any grapes! I'm glad it's not cudzoo! Oh yea, I think I saw that too! I'll have to give that a try next year! I like that idea! Me too! Blessings!
DeleteHello there, I just found you after reading Ferns Plant nutrition and garden post. you said you had yet to have a successful garden....humnn? Have you eaten anything you have grown from your garden? If so it was a success! Your potato hilling looks fine. We are currently renting and are limited on space so we are growing our Irish potatoes in Buckets. We plant the seed potato at about 1/3 rd of the bucket and "Hill" the potato by adding a potting soil dirt mix as the potato plant grows. The vine looks like wild grape? The son looks very handsome...I bet you delight when he does smile! I can almost hear the AWWWW Mom in that photo. I look forward to visiting your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Fiona! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, there have been times when we ate things from our garden, but I have yet to can things from our garden. That's what I meant by being a success, I guess. Plus last year we harvested nothing due to all the rain! I hope this year will be different!
DeleteIt's getting harder to dig for more dirt to pile on the potatoes! I could buy some topsoil that would be easier for me but might run into expense. I guess I'll just keep on digging! The vine does look like a wild grape! I'm hoping the muscadines I found at WM will pollinate some of the vines I have around here. Thank you Fiona! He's a good boy! Stop back soon! I'll check and see if you have a blog. Blessings!
Congratulations to your son! I wish I had half the energy that you do! Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy! I don't always have so much energy, but I'm thankful I can do the things I do! Blessings!
