Warmer Weather and Rain!

Hey ya'll! So glad to be enjoying warmer weather! Spring is making it's debut around here. Softly but subtly. At first, the trees look the same. But if you look closer, you'll see hues of red and purple. It's really pretty! The maple tree is dropping little red blooms or something. I noticed the ground as I was walking down the hill to feed the girls. All of my goats are for sale, by the way. I'm not getting milk from them so they are not paying for their keep. I only want farm animals that produce for me; not me for them. The chickens are finally laying an egg or two a day. Yay! I was happy to get two whole eggs today because the other day, they had been eaten. We think the rooster is doing it. Yes, I said rooster. He just started crowing this week! We thought we had sold all the roosters! Surprise! He doesn't have tail feathers like a rooster, but his comb is definitely like one. Got to find him a new home! If ya'll want a rooster, let me know!

I have had a lot of scammers contact me from my items listed on Craigslist. I even contacted the police, but of course they can't do anything at this time. They told me to ignore them and be careful. That's exactly what I'm doing. I did sell the Silhouette Cameo. Yay! It caused me more stress that it was worth! I'm glad to get it sold and move on. Now to sell the swimming pool, ab bench, and piano. These things are taking up valuable space. I don't use them and hope that God sends the right buyers soon! I am going to be very choosy from now on about what I bring onto the homestead! No more impulse buying! Sometimes, however, you just don't know until you try something. Like with recipes. I am cooking jambalya for dinner today. It calls for a lot of chopped veggies and different types of meat. If it doesn't taste good, that would be a waste. But how will we know if I don't cook it? Most of the time, my recipes are keepers. I hope this one is! All I've got done on it now is the rice or I would show ya'll a picture. I usually post photos on Instagram if you'd like to follow along.

We enjoyed the girls this past weekend! They were so happy to be here! We always have the most fun together! I'm so glad I get to spend time with them as they are growing up too fast! I hope the snow is melting where you live and Spring weather comes soon! I'm running around in shorts and flip-flops, outside! I'll send you some warmth! Have a great day! Blessings from Bama!

It's so hard to believe we had this much snow!

My four beauties!

Although it may not look like it, this bread is yummy! It's a from scratch pull-apart, garlic, cheese bread.

These are chicken pot pies.

Isn't she gorgeous!

The rain made them droop.

  1. My hens layed me 4 eggs today. I have too many roosters too. We have large Asian/Laos population in Marathon County - they are easy to get rid of. I just call the Hmong Association and give them away...lol....so, I will have to do that soon - they have been too frisky for my older hens! When I have a recipe that's not too successful I give it to my chickens. We had 50's today and 60's by Friday! Yay!

    1. That's great, Jacky! So glad for your warmer temps! I wished we had an association like that! I hate to advertise on Craigslist for just one rooster! I give my excess food to the dogs, unless it's crunchy veggies. They're not too fond of celery!

  2. Sorry your goats did not work out. I think the little ones are so cute to watch. Glad you are getting a couple eggs now. Sure is great having a little nicer weather. Your pull apart bread and cute little chicken pot pies look yummy! Have a good week-end coming up! Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy! Some things you don't know until you try! If we lived on more acreage, and farmed full time, things would be different. Yes, I love getting fresh eggs! The bread was awesome! And the pot pies are delicious! Thanks! Blessings!

  3. Hi Bama Girl! Scary about the Craigslist scammers. Glen and I are just now thinking of posting some things to sell on Craigslist and are nervous! Can you tell me how yours ended? How did you know whom to choose to come see your items???

So funny about the rooster (being a rooster, not eating your eggs)! You know, I think it is a good call to sell whatever farm animal is not productive and is costing you to keep them...otherwise, it puts them in the category of pets, eh?

Your breads, pot pies, etc. always look so good! Care to do a step-by-step picture tutorial on canning dry beans? Would LOVE that!

Hope all is well with you and your precious family! Hugs, Cheeryshirley

    1. Hi Cheeryshirley! I meet the buyers somewhere other than my home. Except for the piano, I'm not sure how to do that, but so far only scammers have contacted me about it. You'll know when they are scammers because most of them are out of state. The phone number is different and they speak or text in broken English. They say weird things like they've talked to you before when you know they haven't and try to get you to reply to their email. DON'T! They can hack into your computer if you do that. Or give them your email. Only use the email on Craigslist. Or use your phone. I haven't had any calls or texts from people after I sold the item. The farmers who've been to our property seem like 'good ole guys'! I tend to trust locals because a scammer is almost always located in another town or state. They want to get your address so they can send you a certified check or paypal, etc. Those are some of the responses I've gotten. One is texting me late at night and another texted me at 6 am. I talked to a police officer and he said to ignore them and be careful. Not much they can do until an actual crime happens. Sad one has to deal with such things. Around here, everybody wants something for nothing. I don't come off my price unless I priced it to do so. I could go on, but hopefully I've shared enough that you get the idea. Some people say on their ad to meet them at the local police station. I'm going to do that from now on to hopefully avoid these scammers! We are all fine here, enjoying the warmer temps. Hope you and Glen are doing well! Blessings!

    2. Thank you so much for the detailed warnings! It is such a scary world out there! Hope you keep safe! It is good advice to meet in a public place...and not alone, either! Hope you can sell all you are planning to! We are doing very well here. Way less snow than last year! Way less! Have a fabulous week! Hugs, Cheeryshirley

  4. Looks like the girls are having lots of fun! Best of luck selling your items, that is kind of scary what goes on with Craig's List. I always had luck selling things (furniture and other stuff), and have some things I'd like to list now. But after hearing the crazy things in the news, I am apprehensive. Nothing like farm fresh eggs! My nephew and his wife keep chickens, and have given us eggs and they are so good! Many have double yolks. Bet yours do, too! And just look at all that snow! Good thing it didn't stick around long:)

  5. There was a couple from Georgia who was killed recently when they went to meet with a supposed Craig's List seller. What they are reporting on the news is to not meet anyone at your home. That Law Enforcement Centers are encouraging folks to meet there.... to be safe. I know that's hard with what you have to sell. I've sold lots of stuff through our IWANNA paper and our state agriculture paper. Never occurred to me back then to be so concerned, like we have to be now. Good Luck! As a thought.... don't know how old your piano is.... but sometimes you can get more $$ by donating a piano to a charitable organization for the tax write-off than actually selling it. As a benefit.... they'd come and get it for free!!! The last time I moved my piano it cost us @$400.00. Makes one want one of those cool electric pianos that are programmed to sound like a Grand.... don't need annual tuning and are easy to move around! Love, love, love the daffodils!!!! Have a great day!!
