Loving this hot August weather!

It's not near as hot as last summer; it's somewhat cloudy, with a nice breeze blowing! There's a chance of an isolated rain shower later in the day and that always cools things off a bit. Sorry if ya'll haven't gotten much rain this summer! Believe me, I know what that's like! The downside of all this rain is the vegetation! Good for crops, bad for weeds! We've got mostly weeds and bugs! They cling to you if you perspire too! Like that visual? I'm enjoying the summer anyway!

We went camping this past weekend to Wind Creek. It's the largest campground in the U.S., right here in Sweet Home Alabama! It's about a two hour drive, south of here. The campground was very nice, with water surrounding almost every side. We didn't get a spot right on the water, but just a short walk from the camper got us right to the water. One day, Randy fished from the bank while I sat on the porch of a vacant cabin and crocheted! Sounds like a couple of "old timers" but we both enjoyed it. We visited an area that had Hank Williams cabin. We couldn't go in; only peer through the windows. It was very quaint. We also went to the restaurant that was named Kawliga after one of his songs. The area is surrounded by Lake Martin, almost everywhere you drive! I have to say, it is a beautiful place! Skylar didn't accompany us on this trip, so it was just the two of us. We really enjoyed some time to ourselves!

My hens are only laying 3-4 eggs daily, but I'm letting them pile up. I don't know why, but I just haven't been eating or using that many eggs in my cooking lately! I need to make a fritatta or something, but I don't think the guys really like them. I'll feed some of the eggs to the girls when they come over, I guess!

We'll be celebrating Layla's third birthday here one week from Saturday! Hard to believe she'll be three! She's such a little tyke! I'm planning on making some decorations for her birthday so I'll post them when I finish them. The 'C' is coming along nicely. I need to put at least a couple more coats of paper on before I do the finishing touches. I hope to show that soon as well! Hope ya'll are staying cool and dry! Have a nice weekend! Blessings from Bama!

The shirt I made Yasmine! I had to touch it up a little, but I didn't know what to do about that little circle.

Us at Pompano Joe's at the beach. How'd that get in here?

The shirt I made for Layla. I didn't have to touch this one up. Yay!

The first shirt I made was for Winterlynn. It's a mess!

A voluntary sunflower in the backyard!

A sunflower wreath I made from dollar store flowers.

My neck is broken out on both sides, as well as some on my back! These are from the biting nats! They itch and hurt but are a lot better now!

  1. So nice that you can go camping. We use to camp. Great that you got rain even if it brings weeds! We just got a little but not enough yet to do much good. Sorry about the nats! Am thankful we don't have them here. Nancy

  2. We have not been camping in a while and we need to go again. We only have a tent though but usually really enjoy it.
I have not been using many eggs either. I tend to toss them to the dogs. I don't know why. All this rain and I don't even want to go out to the pens as they are so sloppy.
    Your shirts look wonderful!
Love the view from Hank Williams cabin.

  3. Hi Bama Girl~ I can't believe those biting gnats! I had no idea! No only painful, but I'd imagine irritating in the humid summer heat, too! Glad they are getting better!

The t-shirts for the girls are GREAT!!! You did them free-hand? You are amazing!

How fun to have a get-away for just the 2 of you! Love the "old folks" picture of you sitting crocheting and Randy fishing! Love it!

Really enjoyed this post! Hugs, Cheeryshirley

    1. Awe, You say the sweetest things Shirley! Really makes my day! The shirts were done with a freezer paper stencil, my first time! Thank you so much for the kind comments! Hugs to you too!

  4. The Hank Williams cabin is so cute. Sounds like you two had a great vacation together. I HATE biting gnats!!! They can almost drive a person crazy. I think your shirts look nice! Your eggs will be good for weeks...when I get so many like that, I don't feel guilty not using the yolks. Weight watchers 3 egg whites are only 1 point. Has been dry here. We had a perfect fair week! The skies are dark now - we are going to get some rain today! Will help my pitiful garden. Blessings from Wisconsin.

    1. So glad you had a great week! Wish I could have been there! I'm not afraid of keeping the eggs for awhile, in fact I'm going to make some recipes this week using some of them. Seems like our weather is like yours, and yours like ours? Hot, humid, and damp with more rain in the forecast this week! I like the cloudy days, though, makes it more bearable to be outside! Hope you get rain soon!

PS our gardens haven't done very well this year. Hope you feel better from those biting gnats - hate those too. Sometimes it's hard being an "outside " girl. :). Have a good day!

  6. I just started following you. We have chickens too, although we are getting about 6-7 eggs a day, which is up from prior months.
