Smoothie or Lemon Meringue Pie?

I think I'll have both! My brother brought a couple of lemons from Mobile the last time he was home, so I finally got around to using one of them. They are the biggest lemons I've ever seen! They are more like a grapefruit or very large navel orange in comparison. They don't taste like a traditional lemon, though, so I'm thinking Meyer lemon. I wish I had a Meyer lemon to compare the taste. Maybe the store will have one this week so I can compare. This was my first meringue, since I usually don't like the taste of meringue. This meringue doesn't taste like other meringues, so I think I'll like it. The texture of meringues kind of bother me as well, but since the flavor is better, I can deal with the texture. In fact, I think this is my first 'from scratch' lemon meringue pie! I used the recipe from Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I'm sure there's one on the web if one would like to Google it. I didn't make the crust, or I would still be making the pie right now. I keep a store bought frozen pie crust in the freezer. Maybe one day I'll make my own pie crust!

Since I worked so hard last week hauling dirt with the wheel-barrow, I gave my back a break over the weekend and today! In fact, my upper back muscles were so sore I couldn't have worked them If I wanted to! It's been a beautiful day out with the temps in the lower 60's, so it was very hard for me NOT to do that sort of work! Thus, the pie!

Hopefully by my next post, I will have planted my seeds! I won't to go and do that right now, but I must make dinner! Do the dishes ever get caught up? How about the laundry, dusting, and bathrooms? It seems like I never get all the things done I need to in a day! Like the guy on Andy Griffith,  tomorrow is the best day to do anything! I will be busy tomorrow! Have a nice week! Blessings from Bama!

Are these Meyer lemons?

My first 'from scratch' lemon meringue pie!

Which would you choose? I think I know!

I made hand sanitizer! Thanks to Brown Thumb Mama!

  1. Arkansas is the land of no citrus.... but 2 years or so ago I was in Berkely California and the house we stayed in had this beautiful lemon tree outside the door. I was amazed! I just walked out and picked a few. Ah citrus.... your pie looks amazing.

  3. Good for you making your own hand sanitizer. How do you like it? Hmmm. I would have to choose lemon pie unless that was chocolate ice cream! Nancy

  4. Hi Nancy! I like the hand sanitizer! It works great and smells so much better than the other stuff! I tried to leave comments on your blog, but for some reason they didn't go through at the time. Your pies sure do look good! What size Berkey is that? I love your chimes! We keep ours tied in winter since they keep us awake at night. They're hanging on the porch. Looks like ya'll had a nice Valentine's Day! Love the message your hubs gave you! I am drinking my acv straight with cold water. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Hi, Just read your note back to me about the hand sanitizer. I will have to try that! I don't use a lot of the hand sanitizer but it is nice to carry in the car! Hmmm. I wonder why your comments would not go through. Someone else said that too. Is it because of the words you have to type in? Do you know what I should do about it? My Berkey is the small portable one. It collapses which was nice when we went to AZ for the winter. Thanks for the suggestion about tying your chimes. We take ours down but that is a thought! Nancy

    2. I don't use the stuff either, but I like this! I don't know why they didn't go through or about the words. I don't care for typing in those words, but there are still a few blogs who use that. Thanks for responding back!

  6. Your pie looks yummy, and I'm not that crazy for 'meringues'! You bake and cook so much, a pie crust wouldn't be a big deal at all for you. Hope your back feels better. Hugs!

  8. Hey Bama Girl! I don't think those are Meyer Lemons---Meyers are more orange-y in color, and more lemon-shaped, if that makes sense. Those look like sweet lemons--not sure of the full name. Are yours sweet, less acidic?

I'd love it if you came and shared this (and up to two other posts, if you'd like) at Blog Fest #20. It's live now! :)

    1. I'm still leaning to Meyer lemon since it tastes so vaguely familiar. It's not sweet at all, and sour like a lemon. I'll try to get over there. Thanks for the invite!

By-the-way, your haircut and color look wonderful...and yes, it did adjust your age! :) Enjoy all the pics and fun things going on over at your homestead! Hugs, Cheeryshirley
