Goats and Pears!

The baby goats are proving to be entertainment for us! They are so fun to watch at times! They both can climb on the doghouse now, and try to push each other off! That is a sight to see! They jump around, head-butting each other until one goes down. Usually its Daisey, but she's getting stronger so sometimes it's Delilah! It has been raining a little yesterday and today, so they aren't out much. They usually like to show off when someone is outside.

I have acquired more pears! The first batch I tried didn't turn out to be a jam! It has a good flavor and can be used as a syrup on pancakes or ice cream. I guess that says a lot about the recipe I didn't follow completely. I thought five cups of sugar was a lot, but that was without peeling the pears! I peeled the pears! I found a similar recipe I am making next, using only one cup of sugar to three pounds of peeled pears. That sounds more like it doesn't it? The recipe also calls for ginger; you should've smelled it cooking! It smelled delicious! It even smelled good just sitting in the pot! I cooked it so long trying to thicken it, that it lost the good gingery smell and taste! Oh well, live and learn! It would be so nice to have a mentor instead of learning things the hard way, but that way I won't forget! I think it can be used as a syrup! The guys will let me know! I still like trying new recipes even though they don't all turn out right the first time!

I'm so excited! Lots of good things are coming up! My nieces will be back from Morocco next week, and we will be having a girl baby shower for April! (Amber, don't forget the Argan oil!) Her baby will be here before we know it! We're hoping that she doesn't have to go to UAB to deliver since she is high risk with the pancreatitis and asthma! Pray that all will go well and the baby will be full term! Hope ya'll are experiencing cooler temps! We are, except for the high humidity! Have a good week! Blessings from Bama!

They love their 'Jeep'!

Daisey dominating the top!

Now Delilah is right up there with her!

Daisey is standing her 'ground'!

Delilah likes Ran's cap!

I think she would eat it if she could!

Skylar watching.

I like this view!

The peppers I pickled last week: mild banana peppers are sliced, and the other peppers are mild, too.

Pears that were picked off the ground and some were like this on the tree.

These are from the tree.

It's a little 'brown'!

The syrup in jars.

  1. Those babies are sure cute! I've canned pears before. All I did was peal, cut in half and core the seeds, pack tightly in jars raw and added a simple syrup. Pressured canned them - not sure how long - but they sure were good - not mushy. I've been doing tomatoes the past few days. Blessings from Wisconsin.

    1. Hi Jacky! Wow! Ya'll are still getting tomatoes! I am going to get some for canning, hopefully in 2-3 weeks from the u-pick farm. They are in between seasons. Thanks for the tip on canning pears! I think I'll try that next.

  2. Sounds like you are sure enjoying your goats! I love watching the little goats or seeing them at the fair. Sorry your pears didn't turn out like you want but your guys will probably gobble it up anyway! Nancy

  3. My "syrups" are usually good on pancakes and icecream. Love the goats on the doghouse!

  4. I have done the same thing with my pears (and peaches) before. You can def use them for syrup. I bet it would be good on biscuits too.

We are loving our goats too. They are so much fun to watch.

  7. Awwww. Those baby goats are adorable. We have often thought about getting some goats. We have 26 acres, so we have plenty of room.
You have quite the goodies there. Self sufficient. Love it!
