Lord have mercy, I feel the temperature rising!

I don't mean that in a sacrilegious way, either! It's just so hot here now! We don't usually get these kind of temperatures until much later in the summer! It is 92 degrees in the afternoon, as I write this! We haven't had a good rain, in I don't know when! Some parts are getting too much rain! Wish we had some of that! The sunflowers are starting to lean sideways, so I hope watering them this evening will help.

I want so badly to be outside, but with that heat, I can't take it for very long! I need to walk, weed, water, and the list goes on. Are ya'll experiencing unusually warm temperatures like this? I hope not!

I've been cooking on my small table top grill lately and last night my son gave me the sweetest compliment! He kept saying 'ummm' as he was eating and that "I sure did know how to cook on the grill!" That made my day! I just grilled peppers, onions, and zucchini and then I grilled some boneless, skinless chicken breast that I flattened out a little. I used the Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce and I think that is what makes the chicken taste so good! Tonight, I will use the leftover chicken and veggies on a pizza.

I hope ya'll have a safe Memorial Day weekend and try not to eat too many hot dogs! We're cooking out here this weekend and making ice cream and all the goodies to go along with a cookout! Stay safe! Blessings from Bama!

Using the Vitamix again!

I used beets, small tomatoes, spinach, beet greens, carrots, and blueberries in this juice. Beets are good for liver detox.

Zucchini bread and a glass of juice. Did I eat all that bread?

Maddie was here today. She took out her hair holder and messed up her hair as I was taking this photo.

My little orange grill. Hubs in under cover.

You can kind of tell they are leaning in this photo. The weight of the flowers make them droop, I think.

Finally, some ripe figs!

I pulled these two and ate one. They are not quite ripe enough for me yet.

A man was banging on my door this morning and this is what he gave me! Aren't these beautiful plums?

When they get a little riper, I hope to make jelly.

  2. Nice gift, I wish someone would knock on my door with that! I've never seen a fig tree - neat. Guess what, you know that Sweet Baby Ray's was made by a chef who has a restruant in Wausau, Wisconsin (like 11 miles from me). His name is Tony Raymond. He came to one of my flea markets, I didn't know who he was and he certainly didn't look like he was wealthy. I had an antique pedestal table for $100 he bartered with me down to $75 and then paid me with a $100 bill to make change. I said "I thought you didn't have $100 and he said not $100 for this table..." later I found out it was Sweet Baby Rays guy. Just a funny story. Have a great weekend. Jacky

    1. Oh my gosh Jacky! You've got to be kidding me! That's is unbelievable! I would love to have seen your face when you found out who he was! I love that sauce and I'm glad to know where it comes from. You know, food from Wisconsin has got to be good!

P.S. I'd kill for one of those figs! I love to eat them right off of the tree.

  5. Hi, it has been warmer than usual here too it seems. Your Vitamix looks like my old blender. What is the difference? Cute little Maddie! Nancy

    1. Hi Nancy! The Vitamix has such a strong motor that you don't have to peel fruits or vegetables except, citrus, beets, and only a few other things. You also don't have to remove the seeds, unless they are not healthy to consume. It juices the whole fruit or vegetable. There is no pulp as in a regular juicer. It also cooks soup and freezes ice cream! Right in the machine! It's expensive, but it does so many things that no other appliance can do. We gave it to each other on our 20 anniversary, so it's special.

  6. Hi Bama Girl -It has been unusually hot here too. Of course it always seems we zip right thru spring and that summer seems to drag on for much longer. ;) The grilled chicken and veggies sound divine! It makes me want to grill too!
Have a safe and fun week-end!
    Take care,
    Anna

  9. Hey Bama Girl! Thanks for explaining Nancy's question about the Vitamix as I've learned something too. Are those concoctions good? They sure look delicious in your photos and all those different vegetables are so good for us. I like your cute little grill! Our little tiny (new!) fig tree has a few figs on it already. It's hot and humid here hitting near 90's each day with storms building in the afternoons. Feels more like July (and August) most days.

  10. Hi Bama Girl!
Little Maddie looks like she just bubbles over with personality! Such fun having the Little Ones around, yes?
We have a Vita-Mix, too, and just love it! Not a day goes by without our using it for smoothies, juicing, sauces, etc! powerful machine! Beet juice...very good! That zucchini bread looks yummy...recipe, perhaps?
It has been so long since I've grown sunflowers...you make me want to plant several at our new location! They just seem so majestic and beautiful! Hope yours can make it til harvest! :)
Kadota figs are my absolute favorite! That first one looked just perfect! I looked up the climate needed for them and found that not only do they need it more mild-winter than our new place, but lots of room for the invasive roots! :( Yours looks so yummy! As do those plums! I enjoy your blog so much! Thank you! Cheeryshirley
